General FAQ

Do you accept insurance?

Unfortunately, many insurance companies do not cover weight loss and Riverhead Wellness does not accept insurance at this time.
Yes! We can provide a letter of medical necessity if required for your FSA/HSA account. However, we do not make any guarantees of reimbursement.
Riverhead Wellness only uses high quality compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide from 503A and 503B regulated pharmacies in the USA. Recently there have been concerns about non-pure forms of these medications on the market. These derivative forms of semaglutide and tirzepatide are the “salt” versions of the medications. At Riverhead Wellness we only use the pure base form of semaglutide and tirzepatide.
Riverhead Wellness combines the best of medical science with personalized dietary and lifestyle counseling. Some weight loss programs will simply dispense medications without helping you understand what changes to make in your diet and lifestyle, while other programs push the same dietary changes that most of our patients have tried—and failed—to implement in their lives time and time again. It’s time for a new strategy: one that combines prescription medicines with best available information on diet and nutrition.

Overweight and obesity are at the center of a complex interaction between our genetic predisposition to carry weight and the environment we find ourselves in. The overwhelming imperative for our bodies is to hold onto excess calories whenever possible to avoid starvation… we simply aren’t made to handle high amounts of calorically dense foods being available everywhere, all the time. Furthermore, the kinds of processed foods so ubiquitous in the modern western diet never trigger our sense of fullness, and often, make us hungrier!

If it was simply a matter of knowing which foods to eat, most of us would not have a weight problem. Unfortunately, the environment can be overwhelmingly stacked against us in terms of the food choices we realistically have available to us, the time we have to prepare healthy meals and the stress of a modern busy lifestyle. Medications such as semaglutide, tirzepatide and phentermine can level the playing field and empower you to make healthy choices for your life by reducing appetite and food cravings.

The data on exercise is pretty clear: although there is no better medicine in the world for longevity and staying functional, the impact of exercise on weight loss in the absence of diet changes is modest at best. You may expect to lose 5 or 10 pounds with regular vigorous exercise, but real weight loss will only occur through dietary changes. Exercise has however been shown to be essential in weight loss maintenance.

Absolutely. Research has shown that even modest amounts of weight loss can have huge metabolic benefits in terms of increased insulin sensitivity and cardiovascular risk-factors. Your safety is our highest priority, and we do not treat anyone to a BMI below 20. The bottom line is overweight and obesity is not a choice and is not from a lack of willpower! Just like so many other diseases such as diabetes and hypertension, it is a chronic medical condition that results from our genetics and our environment, and just like other medical conditions, it deserves to be addressed and treated!
